Main Plan Closure to New Members

Effective January 1, 2025, the Main Defined Benefit Retirement Plan closed to newly enrolled new employees hired January 1, 2025, or later. This closure is in accordance with House Bill (HB) 1040 passed in the 68th Legislative Assembly.

Information for Participating Agencies

  • Organizations that are already enrolled in the Defined Benefit Plan are encouraged to enroll in the NDPERS 457 Deferred Compensation Plan to allow for employee participation in the Portability Enhancement Program (PEP).

Enrollment in the NDPERS 457 Deferred Compensation Plan may also enhance vesting options for new hires effective January 1, 2025.

  • If your organization offers your own 403(b) or 457 plan, employees may also be eligible for the Portability Enhancement Provision.  Note that this may limit enrollment options for new hires effective January 1, 2025, and any reallocation of funds for vesting purposes is the responsibility of the individual organization and not NDPERS.
