Death of a Member

Notify the NDPERS office immediately of the death of a member. A telephone call will initiate the appropriate process. Upon receiving notice, NDPERS will review the NDPERS retirement record and contact your designated beneficiary(ies) or family members.

Death of a Designated Beneficiary

You must update your beneficiary designation by completing a new Designation form.

If you are retired, you may update your tax withholding by visiting PERSLink Member Self Service (MSS) or completing our Tax Withholding Election SFN 51506.

Death of a Member

Death of a Covered Dependent

If you are actively employed, contact your employer or NDPERS. A telephone call will initiate the appropriate process.  Upon notice, NDPERS will send you information to update your record.

If you are retired, contact NDPERS. A telephone call will initiate the appropriate process.  Upon notice, NDPERS will send you information to update your record.

Life Insurance

Death of a Member

Notify the NDPERS office of the death of a member. A telephone call will initiate the appropriate process. Upon receiving notice, NDPERS will send your family information about your NDPERS benefits.

Death of a Covered Dependent

Notify the NDPERS office of the dependent’s death.  A telephone call will initiate the appropriate process.  If a life insurance benefit is applicable, NDPERS will send you the forms to initiate payment of the coverage.
